Summer Reading for Kids

Summer ReadingSummer reading is so important for children that I have decided to do what I can to encourage kids to be Summer Readers. This month I am doing a Summer Reading Kick Off “Storytime” at my local Lancaster Community Library on June 22 and an  Author Expo event at the Portsmouth Public Library on June 25.

For parents who have Lonely Lola Ladybug fans at home, the Lola Ladybug Fan Club’s first ever “Letter from Lola” is here and it’s all about being a Summer Reader! If you have not registered your child to receive Letters from Lola yet, you have another chance. Below is a preview of Letter from Lola #1 and instructions for joining the Lola Ladybug Fan Club.

Letter from Lola #1- June 2016: Summer Reading

Dear Lola fan!

Do you know that kids who read at least 6 books this summer start the new school year ahead of kids who don’t? Kids who don’t read over the summer can lose up to three months of their reading skills. They actually forget some of what they learned. Yikes! I don’t want to lose what I learned. I’m going to be a Summer Reader by using my public library. Can you read 6 books by the end of summer? Use this Summer Reader Book Report to keep you on track and let me know the books you have read. When you do, I will send you a READERS ROCK certificate!

I hope you like the 2 coloring pages I’m sending. – I’m a Summer Reader! & Summer Reader Book Report

Love,

Lola Ladybug

  1. Good for you. Mary Jo. I think you have great ideas. I enjoyed watching your school visit too. I must try video.
I am behind after my holiday but feel more relaxed to take up the pen as it were.
I think I’m betterat longer books and I don’t always feel like rhyming. I wish you well with your next project and any books you are working on.
